Impact #1: Period dramas – Rebelling against time.
Rebelling against time
One of the most immediately captivating aspects of period dramas is the meticulous attention to visual detail. The costumes, the set design, the lighting—every frame feels like a painting. There’s a richness and texture to these films that immediately draws you in, not just to a specific time period, but into the emotional landscape of the characters who inhabit that world.
But what truly resonates with me in period dramas is not just the aesthetics but the stories of rebellion against societal rules. Characters like Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice or Jo March in Little Women are not content to simply accept the roles assigned to them. They push back against the norms of their time, finding ways to assert their individuality in a world that constantly seeks to contain them.
This defiant spirit is something I bring to every project I work on. I believe that great creative direction—whether in fashion, branding, or visual identity—should challenge the status quo. It’s about finding ways to break free from convention, just as those iconic period drama characters do. When I work on a brand, I ask: How can this stand apart from the crowd? How can we break free from what’s expected and create something that feels authentic, yet revolutionary?
These stories of people fighting against the norms of their time resonate across generations because they touch on universal human experiences—the desire for freedom, for authenticity, for connection.
In my creative work, I’m always looking to tap into this universality. Whether I’m crafting a brand’s visual identity or conceptualizing a photoshoot, I want to create something that speaks to both the present and the future, something that feels rooted in history but relevant today. Like the heroines and heroes of my favorite period dramas, I believe in creating work that doesn’t just follow the rules, but reshapes them, forging new paths while staying deeply connected to the emotional core of the human experience.
